How to Stay Focused During Long Practice Exams Without Losing Energy
Long practice exams test more than academic knowledge. They also test concentration, pacing and mental stamina.
The best way to build stamina is gradually.
Do not immediately begin with full-length practice papers every day. Start with shorter sessions and progressively increase the duration as your concentration improves.
During longer sessions, use appropriate breaks between practice blocks. Avoid turning every break into a long phone or gaming session, because returning to focused work can become harder.
Before starting, remove obvious distractions:
Silence notifications.
Clear unnecessary materials.
Prepare water.
Set up the required stationery or device.
Choose a quiet workspace.
During the exam, focus on the question in front of you rather than thinking about how much work remains.
If your concentration drops, use a quick reset:
Stop → Take one controlled breath → Read the question again → Identify the task → Continue.
Nutrition and sleep also matter. Students cannot compensate for consistently poor sleep simply by completing more practice questions.
After each long session, record where concentration started to decline.
Was it after 30 minutes? 45 minutes? During difficult questions?
This information helps you build stamina progressively.
The goal is not to make every practice session exhausting. It is to teach your brain to maintain accurate thinking for the duration of the actual assessment.
